Plywood shows its layers at the edge and can form the body of a cabinet. It is not one uniform grade: veneer, bonding, thickness and visible face all vary. We select a specification for the piece being made.

Materials and finishes

The edge reveals the construction

If you want the layers visible, the edge becomes part of the design. If not, it can be veneered or covered to suit the intended finish.

Shelves sized for the span

Distance between supports and expected load come before choosing thickness or promising an unreinforced shelf.

Exposed edges

A layered look still calls for clean machining and finishing, especially where hands meet the surface.

Decorative face

Plywood can remain visible or take another veneer or finish. Substrate and final face should be specified separately.

Grade for the room

Products differ in how they suit moisture exposure. We choose a particular board for the environment.

The product specification must suit its intended use.

Why the generic name is not enough

“Plywood” says nothing about species, grade, layer construction or finish. Those details affect appearance, price and suitable use.

Assembly and fixings

A desk or bookcase is not chosen for its attractive edge alone. We check load, support and joints before cutting components.

Comparing quotations

Ask for thickness, board type, face and edge treatment, and fittings. Two units should not be treated as equivalent merely because both say plywood.

Is plywood always stronger than MDF?＋

That cannot be answered without product, thickness, span and loading. The board is selected for the actual function.

Can the edge remain visible?＋

Yes, where the chosen board and edge finish suit the piece and its cleaning needs.

Can it be used in a bathroom?＋

Only after checking grade, sealed edges and water exposure. Plywood is not assumed to be waterproof.
